I've worked in fast-paced environments before and I know how to balance curiosity with attention to detail. I see the opportunity for positive change and I want to help Jane get there.

Who am I anyways?

For 12+ years, I've worked at companies of all sizes as both an individual contributor and a design manager. My leadership philosophy focuses open and honest communication. It's important to me that everyone shares a sense of purpose and feels valued. I often lean on first-principles thinking to encourage deep questions so that we can address the root of the problem.

Most recently on Shopify Retail, my lead cited my impact by saying, "he continues to partner with peers across the org to get work done. He often credits others for their contributions and accomplishments and in the process gains trust and support of others. This positive behavior ensures that the team is able to make progress towards its goals."

Why pick me?

At Mozilla, I worked to keep the internet open and accessible for all. Moving to Shopify allowed me to make a difference in the lives of small business owners. Leaving a positive impact on the world and those around me has always been most important to me.

My leadership style is grounded with a player/coach perspective. With recent experience designing for merchants at Shopify, I can lead by example to set a high standard for quality.

But I also know when to shift gears to ensure long term growth of the team. I foster low-drama, ego-free environments and build trust by empowering my team with ownership and autonomy. Through regular one-on-one sessions, critiques, and impact reviews, I provide actionable feedback and guidance.

At one point, I experienced seven direct-manager changes and almost as many re-orgs. I've developed a resilience that makes me comfortable with change. I often draw on my lived experiences to help my team manage expectations.

When faced with ambiguity, I proactively seek context and address problems with genuine curiosity. I'm no stranger to changing priorities and market fluctuations either, I know how to provide steady leadership through the tough times. Helping others gives me fulfilment.
I believe leadership should be approached with collaboration
The best way to drive towards product success is to drive together. I always align my team's expectations with a shared charter that connects our intended outcomes with larger organizational KPIs. Doing this early helps create a culture of learning and experimentation that ultimately leads to a better product experience.

But I don't just want to build design teams, I want to build resilient ones. Sharing personal values and operating instructions helps my teams establish shared values and rituals that allows them to show up as their truest self. I want to raise the bar for remote leadership.
